Twas the night I lost documents

Twas the night I lost documents

‘Twas the night I lost documents, when all through the house;

Not a piece of paper was findable, not even those for my spouse.

Stacks of paper here and lost paper there;

The entire situation had become impossible to bare.

The office space limited, on floor and on desk;

Makes finding anything quite grotesque.

And mamma with her paper cut, and I with my frustration;

Had just given up any organized sensation.

When out of the desk drawer arose such a light,

And I sprang from my staple remover to see if everyone was alright;

Over to the drawer I flew like a flash,

Opened it slowly, hoping it some nifty stash.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a desktop document scanner and some technology gear;

With some OCR software and something for search,

I knew this the solution to get off my paper perch.

Faster than the speed of light I grabbed a stack of paper,

Screaming loudly how this will be a great helper;

“Now, Scanner! now, Laptop!, now, Metadata and Index!”

On, Invoice! on Agreements! on, Mortgage and rolodex!

To the ADF feeder! to my hard drive you go!

Now scan away! scan away! all the paper cargo!”

Paper flew all around creating a paper tornado;

Through the scanner, the shredder alleviating the paper ghetto.

When all that was left was a full hard drive and paper snow storm;

I could breathe and realize how great it was to transform.

I crept to my laptop and put my hand on my head;

and behind me I heard “do a search; go ahead”.

I type the words “invoice” and “phone” so quickly;

And there were my documents it happened so slickly.

I turned to my wife and all I could say

“Merry paperless office to all, and to all a paper free day”

Happy Holidays!
